History of the place and interesting facts

Cobá was an important Mayan city that flourished between 600 and 900 AD and served as an important commercial and political centre. The city was connected to other Mayan cities by an elaborate network of sacbeob, white roads, which facilitated the exchange of goods and ideas.

Archaeological finds indicate that Cobá had a large population and a variety of religious and political activities took place. In the 10th century, the city began to lose importance and eventually fell into oblivion until it was rediscovered in the 20th century.

Today, Cobá is not only an archaeological treasure, but also a place where visitors can experience the connection to nature and the spirituality of the Maya. The jungle that surrounds the ruins adds to the mystical atmosphere and promotes a deep understanding of the Mayan heritage.
