History of the place and interesting facts

Baja California has a rich history characterised by various cultural influences. Originally inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Kumeyaay and Guaycura, the region was discovered by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. In the centuries that followed, missionaries set up several mission stations in the 18th century to Christianise the indigenous people and introduce agriculture.

After Mexican independence in 1821, Baja California became part of Mexico, but experienced instability, especially during the US-Mexican War (1846-1848), which led to the cession of large territories. In the 20th century, the region began to grow and developed into an important tourist destination, especially in cities such as Tijuana and Ensenada. Today, Baja California combines traditional culture with a modern lifestyle and attracts visitors from all over the world.
